Materials & Finishes

Materials and finishes are selected based upon structural requirements, exposure conditions, and architectural intent. Canopy systems are fabricated to engineered drawings and project specifications to ensure durability, coordination, and long-term performance in exterior environments.

  • Best For - Most canopy framing and structural support systems.
    Why It’s Used - Strong, versatile, and well‑suited for welded and bolted canopy assemblies.
    Common Applications - Primary canopy frames, columns, beams, brackets, and support members.
    Note - Requires protective finishes for exterior exposure. Common Grades - ASTM A36, A992, A572, A500 (HSS)

  • Best For - Lightweight canopy components or projects requiring enhanced corrosion resistance.
    Why It’s Used - Naturally corrosion resistant and suitable for select architectural applications where reduced weight or refined appearance is desired.
    Common Applications - Select canopy framing, secondary members, or architectural elements where specified. Common Alloys - 6061-T6 and 6063-T5 when specified.

  • Best For - Architectural canopies requiring enhanced corrosion resistance or a refined appearance.
    Why It’s Used - Durable and suitable for exposed environments where appearance and longevity are critical.
    Common Applications - Specialty canopy components, brackets, accents, or architectural details. Common Grades - 304 / 304L and 316 / 316L when specified.

  • Self‑supported canopy systems with independent columns and framing, commonly used for entries, walkways or site features.

  • Best For - Canopy systems receiving field‑applied coatings.
    Applied after fabrication to provide temporary corrosion protection prior to installation. Important Note - Shop primer is intended to reduce rust during handling and shipping and is not a final finish unless specifically noted in project specifications.

  • Best For - Exterior canopy structures requiring long‑term corrosion protection.
    Commonly specified for exposed steel in outdoor environments. Steel is typically galvanized in accordance with ASTM A123 (fabricated steel) and ASTM A153 (hardware) where specified. Appearance Note - Hot-dip galvanizing provides excellent corrosion resistance but results in a non-uniform, industrial appearance and is not intended for smooth architectural finishes.

  • Best For - Architectural canopy systems requiring consistent color and finish quality.
    Provides a durable, uniform finish for exposed canopy components. Color Considerations - Powder coat colors are typically selected from RAL standard color ranges; specialty colors may be limited. Metallic powders often require a clear coat for consistency and durability.
